Buying Double Glazing (Made Easier)
How do I measure my windows and doors ?
Windows:
a) Measure the overal brick to brick width taking the
narrowest size.
b) Measure the overal height from lintel to underside
of cill or to the bottom of the old window frame if
they are external tiles taking the shortest size.
c) Now deduct 10mm from each of these sizes, this will
give you your manufacture sizes required to order your
windows.
Doors:
a) Measure your door following the above method.
b) After carefully measuring your door aperture you
must note the following:.
- Viewed from outside which side are the door hinges
located.
- Does the door open inwards or outwards.
- You must also note if the door frame will require
add-ons to allow the door hinges to clear plasterline
or render.
- If the door is a rear door you may want a midrail.
If so, at what height do you wish this to be. If midrail
required what do require in the lower section ie glass
flat panel or feature panel.
French Doors:
a) Measure as you would a single door taking overal
width and depth sizes. The only additional information
required is of the two doorswhich will be the prime
door, and do they open inwards or outwards. (hook and
eyes are not a standard fitting).
Question,
Do your windows require anoutside cill? If yes this
will automatically be deducted from your overal sizes.
If your windows are in a tilehung elevation you will
need to measure the overal width including the side
cheeks, these will be deducted off your overal window
width size.
